The Boca Raton Fire-Rescue Services Department is represented at memorials, holiday parades, sporting events, and other local ceremonies by its Honor Guard team, which was established in September of 1992. Twelve men and women currently volunteer their time to practice marching drills and maneuvers that were taught initially by sergeants of the U.S. Third Army Infantry Honor Guard in a two-day seminar conducted at Broward Community College. The protocols they shared and the procedures in Army Field Manual 22-5 provide the guidance the team uses for drill and ceremony.

Honor Guard The members function as an Honor Guard unit at funerals as well as a Color Guard detail at flag presentations. The team has developed into an award winning unit that has won first place in the Fire Rescue East RegionalCompetition for three consecutive years from 1996 to 1998, as well as a second place showing at the Fire Department Instructors' National Conference Competition in 1996. Proudly, the competing squads have performed with different individuals. The Uniform consists of a white bell hat with a gold braid and a gold "Honor Guard" hat badge.

The shirt is white long-sleeve polyester with brass "FD" buttons, a gold "Honor Guard" badge and gold "Honor Guard" collar insignia. The shoulder cords and ascot are gold colored and formal white nylon gloves are worn. The pants are navy blue with gold pin stripes, and are worn with a white cotton parade belt, brass buckle and four brass keepers. The uniform is complete with black parade shoes and undergarments consisting of a v-neck shirt, four shirt garters, and black socks.

At Honor Guard activities, black ascot and shoulder cords are worn and the badge is covered with a mourning band.

Holding FlagThe Color Guard displays the flags of the United States, the State of Florida, the City of Boca Raton, and the Department’s Fire-Rescue flag. The team leader carries a pewter parade trumpet and personnel presenting gold plated axes flank the Colors.
