Traffic Maintenance

Maintenance of Traffic Construction projects effect the ability of traffic to move without interruption. This web page provides the driver with information they need to avoid areas where traffic interruptions may occur and will provide the businesses and agencies with policies regarding maintenance of traffic. Also provided is information regarding enforcement and solutions to assist in residential traffic problems.

When planned activities on or adjacent to an existing roadway will disrupt the movement of motor vehicles, bicycle, pedestrian traffic, transit operations, as well as normal access to businesses and homes, then a plan for maintaining traffic flow in a safe and efficient manner becomes necessary.

The primary function of maintainence of traffic (MOT) is to provide safe and efficient movement of vehicles, bicyclist, and pedestrians through and around temporary traffic control zones while protecting workers and equipment.

All activities on or adjacent to the public transportation network require the submittal of a plan which meets the minimum requirements of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Parts 1,5, & 6 and the Florida Department of Transportation Index 600. Persons preparing the plan must be certified by the State of Florida for Advanced Maintenance of Traffic Plan Preparation. A State certification number must be provided to the City. Contact John Reilly at least 48 hours in advance of any lane or road closures so that the City can properly notify all emergency services.

Those planning a special event must obtain a special event permit which can be obtained from Development Services Building Department (561-393-7941).  A MOT plan will be required if your event will effect traffic within the City.

In order to assist the traveling public a GIS map is available on-line, which indicates the location of all existing and proposed roadway construction.
