The Boca Raton Police Services Department received National Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies in 1989.

Documents/applications for Officer positions will not be accepted without required scores on the CJBAT (85%), TABE 12.9 on the Language, Reading, and Math, and a passing score on the physical agility.  Please read the Police Background/Information packet for more information.

  • Be at least 19 years of age
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Not have been convicted of a felony
  • Not have been convicted of perjury
  • Be of good moral character
  • Minimum of 60 credits from an accredited college OR two (2) years active duty military with an honorable discharge, OR, two (2) years certified law enforcement experience as a police officer. (Not correctional officer)
  • You may apply for employment before obtaining a Florida Driver's License. If selected you must obtain a valid Florida Driver's license before starting work as a Boca Raton police officer.
  • Note: While on duty, employees are not permitted to have any tattoos visible.

Question:  I am a certified police officer with another agency, will my current salary transfer with me if I am hired by the City of Boca Raton?
Answer: No, all applicants are hired at starting salary.

Question: Can I apply before I have a Florida Drivers License?
Answer: Yes, you may apply for employment before obtaining a Florida Driver's License. However, if selected you must obtain a valid Florida Driver's license before starting work as a Boca Raton police officer.

Question: If I'm a certified police officer in a different state, do I have to complete the Exam Qualification Course (Comparative Compliance) before applying? 

Answer:  No, however if you are hired by the Boca Raton Police Services Department we will send you to the class within a year of being hired.

Question: I am a certified Police Officer, will my certification exempt me from any portion of the testing process.

Answer: No, all applicants are required to meet all prerequisite testing requirements and complete every phase of the hiring process. 

Out of state applicants can expect to make at least three trips to Florida to complete all required tests during the hiring process.

During the first trip, the applicant will either contact Broward State College or Palm Beach State College's Criminal Justice Testing Center to schedule the required pre-requisite testing.  The testing centers will have to most updated information regarding dates and times of the test needed prior to submitting any documentation to the Boca Raton Police Services Department. 

When the applicant receives all of his or her test scores they must forward those scores along with the background packet and required documents to the Boca Raton Police Services Department. 

If the applicant is selected to move on to the next phase of the hiring process they will be required to make a second trip to complete the oral board, B-Pad, and polygraph exam.

If the applicant is selected to move on to the next phase of the hiring process they will be required to make a third trip to complete the psychological exam and the physical exam
