Boca Raton Police warn residents & businesses about FPL Scam
Boca Raton, FL – Boca Raton Police Services Department Crime Prevention officers want to remind residents and local businesses to be aware of a scam affecting many Florida communities. The scammers attempt to trick FPL customers into thinking their account is past due. According to FPL, customers around the state are getting phone calls from people identifying themselves as FPL representatives, calling to inform customers that their bill is past due. The “representative” then gets the unsuspecting customer to give their credit card number to the scammer or to pay the bill by PayPal to another account.
FPL says its employees will never call customers and ask for their personal information unless the customer initiates the phone call. If you get one of these phone calls, do not give your personal information or credit card number to the caller. Tell them that you will call FPL customer service to verify the status of your account.
