Auto burglar caught in the act

Boca Raton, FL – On Monday, December 12 at about 8:30 in the morning, Boca Raton Police officers responded to a burglary to a vehicle that just occurred at Aspen Air Conditioning, 3999 North Dixie Highway.

The caller, Steve Rimel, told officers when he arrived at work he saw a male inside another employee’s car. Rimel confronted the male, later identified as Steven Abdelnour, who fled south through the parking lot. Rimel gave chase while calling police. Rimel lost sight of Abdelnour when he entered the back yard of a home on the east side of Dixie Highway.

An officer arriving in the area spotted Abdelnour running south through the back yards on NE 2nd Avenue. The officer chased Abdelnour for a short distance before apprehending him. Rimel identified Abdelnour as the person he saw inside the employee’s car. The victim told officers that only loose change was taken from her unlocked car.

There were two other reports of burglaries during the same timeframe and in the same area, in which two unlocked cars were entered and loose change was taken. Detectives are investigating these crimes to see if they are related.

Officers arrested Abdelnour, who is currently on probation for burglary, and charged him with burglary to a conveyance and violation of probation.
