Armed burglar arrested
Boca Raton, FL – On Sunday, December 23, at about 5:20 p.m., Boca Raton Police officers responded to a residential burglary in the 100 block of East Jeffery Street.
Officers met with the resident’s daughter, who was watching the house while her parents were out of town. She told officers when she arrived today she found the front door deadbolt unlocked and the house in disarray. She found a rear window pried open and evidence that someone had been living in the house. Officers spoke with the homeowner who said there were several firearms in the house and it was determined that a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun was missing as well as a laptop computer.
The victim told officers that a family acquaintance, Joseph Taylor, was around the house while they were packing for vacation. The victim told officers he spoke with a neighbor who said Taylor had asked him for assistance with a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun that was jammed.
As officers were continuing their investigation, they received a phone call from an officer from the Boynton Beach Police Department. The Boynton Beach officer said he had just arrested Joseph Taylor for an unrelated crime and Taylor had a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun in his possession. Taylor told the officer it belonged to the victim of the burglary.
Boca Raton detectives interviewed Taylor, who confessed to committing the crime. Detectives charged Taylor with armed burglary.
