Another Broward bandit burglary bust
Boca Raton, FL – On Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at about 11:25 in the morning, Boca Raton Police officers responded to an in-progress burglary to a home in the 600 block of NW 13th Avenue.
The victim told officers she heard a loud bang from her front door, and as she looked outside, she heard the gate leading to her backyard rattle. Shortly thereafter, she saw two males trying to open a screen door to her patio in the backyard, which was locked. The suspects saw the victim, then ran to a grey vehicle and fled the area.
Officers and detectives responding to the area, saw a car matching the description given by the victim heading north on NW 12th Avenue. Detectives stopped the vehicle and spoke with the occupants Darren Bortner, and Edward Rodriguez. The victim was able to identify Bortner and Rodriguez as the two suspects she saw trying to enter her patio.
Bortner later admitted to Boca Raton detectives that he and Rodriguez were planning on breaking into the house and a friend drove them there. Detectives charged all three with attempted burglary to an occupied dwelling.
