Tactical Team arrests two burglars

Boca Raton, FL On Friday, December 31, just after noon, Boca Raton police officers working on the Tactical Team were on surveillance at Sugar Sand Park, 300 South Military Trail, due to a recent spate of automobile burglaries.

Several minutes later, officers saw a white, four-door Buick driven by a male, enter the park. The driver drove through several lots, slowing or stopping near parked cars. Numerous times the driver would park next to cars, then move several seconds later. Officers recognized this behavior as indicative of someone preparing to commit a burglary. Officers followed the vehicle as it left the park and saw the driver run the stop sign at Military Trail.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and met with the driver, Ricky Brownlee and the passenger, Wayne Brownlee. When officers walked up to the vehicle they immediately smelled an odor of marijuana smoke and observed Wayne Brownlee take a window punch from his waist and try to hide it on the floorboard. Officers found some marijuana on the rear floorboard. They also located two credit cards with two different names, neither belonging to the suspects. Both suspects denied any knowledge of the marijuana or the credit cards and gave conflicting stories about why they were in the park.

Officers arrested both suspects for possession of marijuana. When the officers completed an inventory search of the vehicle, they discovered numerous credit cards, identification cards and a checkbook. Two of the names associated with these items were identified as belonging to victims of two different auto burglaries that occurred in another jurisdiction about an hour before officers stopped the suspects. Detectives linked the suspects to at least three burglaries in other jurisdictions and continue to investigate the origin of other property found in the vehicle.

Officers charged both suspects with possession of marijuana and petty theft. Wayne Brownlee was also charged with possession of burglary tools and Ricky Brownlee was also charged with loitering and prowling.
