Two burglars arrested in Boca
Boca Raton, FL Boca Raton Police officers nabbed two burglars last week. The first arrest occurred on Friday, January 14 at about 7:45 a.m. Officers responded to a burglary at 1799 SW 8th Street. Officers met with the victim, Mr. Frias, who told officers that at about 5:05 a.m., his car was broken into. Mr. Frias added that he had the entire incident on video. The video shows the suspect tried to open two other car doors before he entered Frias' car, in which he broke a tray table attached to the back of the front passenger seat. The suspect also took a child's bike and skateboard from a partially enclosed area near Mr. Frias' front door. The suspect is seen leaving east toward the cul-de-sac.
Officers spoke with several neighbors who believed the suspect was a guest of the resident at 1751 SW 8th Street. As officers approached the residence, they saw a red Honda Civic, registered to Gilbert Cruz, parked in the grass with a bike sticking out of the truck. The officers made contact with the resident who said Gilbert Cruz had shown up early in the morning intoxicated and they let him stay and sleep it off. Officers found Cruz, who matched the suspect seen on the video, sleeping on the floor. Officers arrested Cruz and recovered the bicycle and skateboard from the trunk of the Honda. Cruz is charged with three counts of burglary to an automobile, burglary to a structure, petit theft, and criminal mischief.
The second arrest came Friday afternoon, when a neighbor saw a male breaking into an apartment at 1251 South Federal Highway. The neighbor called Boca Raton Police and gave a description and direction of travel for the suspect. Police located the suspect, later identified as Barry Jean, walking a short distance away. The witness identified Jean as the person he saw break into the apartment. Jean was arrested and charged with burglary.
