The manager for Boca Helping Hands, Linda Gove, recognized the description of the male and told officers it could be Michael Carland, who she had an interaction with several days earlier.

On May 24, 2010, Detective James Giumenta was notified that the DNA in the blood belonged to Michael Carland. Carland was arrested and charged with second degree arson.
