Woman victim of distraction theft

Boca Raton, FL – On Thursday, February 4th at about 1:40 p.m., officers from the Boca Raton Police Services Department responded to a report of a distraction theft that occurred at 5264 Deerhurst Crescent Circle.

Susanna Massey, the victim, told officers that at about 1:30 p.m., a Hispanic male rang her doorbell.  When she answered it, the suspect told her he was an exterminator and was working at the residence next door and wanted to check her backyard for ants.  Massey let him inside and they proceeded to the backyard.  The suspect told Massey he needed hot water to add to his solution, which he called an “acid.”  At the kitchen sink, the suspect sprayed Massey's right hand with the solution and said, “Oh my God, take off your jewelry, that's acid.”  Massey didn't take off the jewelry and yelled at the suspect to leave the house.  When he retreated to the front door, Massey saw a second suspect inside the house.  Both suspects left through the front door.  Massey did not see any vehicles leaving the scene.  After the suspects left, Massey discovered her identification and several credit cards were stolen.

Unfortunately, crimes like this one are not uncommon in South Florida.  We encourage people to remain vigilant and not allow strangers into their homes.  If anyone has information about this crime, they are asked to call Detective Chris Suarez at (561) 620-6146 or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS.
