Man robbed at knifepoint, bicycle taken
Boca Raton, FL On Tuesday, December 21 at about 6:50 p.m., Boca Raton police officers arrested a juvenile for the second time this month. This time it was for robbing a man of his bicycle at 150 NE 1 Avenue.
When officers arrived, they met with the victim, who told them he was standing in the alleyway behind his workplace waiting for his shift to begin, when two white males on bicycles rode by him. They were followed by a young, light-skinned black male carrying a skateboard under his arm. The male jumped on the victim's bicycle and when the victim attempted to stop him, he noticed the suspect was holding a knife in his hand. In fear for his safety, the victim let the suspect ride off on his bicycle. The victim told officers he recognized the suspect because they live in the same apartment complex.
As officers were investigating the crime, they received information that three juveniles were seen riding bicycles in the area at the time of the robbery. Based on previous knowledge, officers went to the juvenile's house and discovered several bicycles in the yard, including one that matched the victim's bicycle. The suspect and several other juveniles were inside the house. Officers brought the victim to the house and he immediately identified Dennis Downs as the robber.
Officers arrested Downs and charged him armed robbery. Downs was previously arrested for burglarizing ZED 451 on November 27.
