Boca Raton, FL On Sunday, August 22, at about 5:40 p.m., officers with the Boca Raton Police Services Department responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery that had just occurred at the Publix Greenwise, 21230 St. Andrews Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they met with the victim, Emily Spires. Ms. Spires told officers she had been sitting at a table with her purse resting underneath her arm, when an unknown male ran up from behind her. The suspect snatched her purse and ran to a black Saab, which was parked in a nearby handicap spot. Ms. Spires, who chased the suspect to his vehicle, tried to wrestle the purse from the suspect's grasp as he got into the car. The suspect drove off with Ms. Spires still holding onto her purse. Ms. Spires was dragged a short distance, resulting in abrasions to her legs and arms. Ms. Spires was treated at the scene by Boca Raton Fire Rescue.

There were several witnesses to the crime who were able to provide a possible tag number for the black Saab. The Saab and tag number matched the description of a car involved in two previous similar crimes. The first crime occurred on Sunday, August 8 at Whole Foods, 1400 West Glades Road. During this crime, a Hispanic male took a woman's purse out of her shopping cart as she shopped in the store. The second crime occurred on Sunday, August 15 at Publix, 1339 West Palmetto Park Road. During this crime the suspect, a Hispanic male, grabbed a woman's purse out of her hands as she was about to put her purchases into her vehicle. In both of these crimes, the suspect fled in a black Saab.

Yesterday afternoon, detectives spoke with the registered owner of the car, Rebecca Chatham and her boyfriend, Sean Fields. Fields, who matched the description of the suspect in all three crimes, agreed to speak with detectives. Fields admitted to committing all three crimes and provided details of each crime to the detectives. Fields was charged with two counts of robbery by sudden snatching, aggravated battery, grand theft, organized scheme to defraud, fraudulent use of a credit card, and identity theft.
