Boca resident and officers team up to catch burglar
Boca Raton, FL – On the afternoon of Thursday, September 1, officers with the Boca Raton Police Department’s Tactical Team and Detective Bureau were patrolling the southwest section of Boca Raton due to a recent spate of burglaries. Just before 3:00 p.m., a resident in the 800 block of SW 5th Street heard the sound of breaking glass coming from his neighbor’s house. When he investigated, he saw a male climbing through a rear window of the house at 817 West Camino Real and called police.
Officers were on scene within minutes and were surrounding the house, when the suspect, identified as Aramis Garcia, ran out of the rear of the house. Garcia jumped the fence and officers chased him. Garcia, who was carrying a bed sheet which contained his ill-gotten loot, dropped it as officers closed in. Officers apprehended Garcia and recovered the stolen property.
The witness identified Garcia as the person he saw crawling through his neighbor’s broken window. Another witness, who lives near the victim, identified Garcia as the man who had knocked on her door just minutes before the burglary. Officers arrested Garcia and charged him with burglary to a structure and resisting arrest.
Since there had been other recent burglaries in the area, detectives continued their investigation and discovered property belonging to other victims located at Garcia’s residence. The investigation is continuing and further charges may be pending.
