Woman’s good deed, leads to stolen cell phone
Thief arrested, phone recovered
Boca Raton, FL – On Monday, October 3, at about 2:45 in the afternoon, Sheri Jacobs was in front of the H & R Block at 1924 NE 4th Avenue, when a male approached her and asked to use her cell phone, since his phone had died. Jacobs handed the male, later identified as Steven Rice, her phone. Rice appeared to make a phone call but then ran off with the phone.
Boca Raton Police officers responded to the area and met with a witness who saw a person matching Rice’s description entering the boardwalk area of James Rutherford Park. Officers checked the entire boardwalk and at the southern end located Rice. Rice immediately told them, “I know why you are here.” Rice then took an iPhone from his pocket and said it was the victim’s phone and handed it to the officers.
Jacobs identified Rice as the person who took her phone. Officers arrested Rice and charged him with theft.
