Partners in crime arrested for burglary
Boca Raton, FL – On Thursday, August 2, 2012, at about 9:45 in the morning, Boca Raton Police officers responded to a burglary to a residence in the 300 block of NW 12th Avenue.
The victim told officers he was sleeping when he heard his dogs barking. He went into the living room, looked outside and saw a newer model burnt orange, two-door Mitsubishi Eclipse parked in his driveway. The victim heard a noise from his bedroom, walked back and confronted a suspect, who was holding a necklace. The suspect ran out of the house and got into the Mitsubishi, which left south on NW 12th Avenue.
Boca Raton detectives were able to track down the tag on the Eclipse and identified the owner as Jessica Mariano. Two hour later, detectives saw the car near 2200 North Dixie Highway and pulled it over. They spoke with Jessica Mariano, who was alone in the vehicle. Mariano said she had just dropped off her friend, Dirk Hiebert, at his home. Detectives were familiar with Hiebert since he was recently arrested for burglary. Mariano told detectives Hiebert and she worked together burglarizing homes and admitted to her involvement in the burglary of the house on NW 12th Avenue.
Based on the information Mariano provided, detectives showed the victim a photo line-up and he identified Hiebert as the suspect who was in his house. Boca Raton detectives picked up Hiebert at his home and he admitted to his involvement in the burglary. He told detectives Mariano and he pawn the property they steal to buy drugs. Detectives recovered the victim’s necklace at a Broward pawn shop, where Mariano had pawned it. Detectives charged Mariano and Hiebert with burglary to an occupied dwelling and additionally charged Hiebert with grand theft.
