Savvy resident foils burglary attempt
Boca Raton, FL – On Friday, January 3, at about 10:15 a.m., Boca Raton Police responded to an attempted burglary to a residence in the 1400 block of NW 15th Avenue.
The resident told police she was awakened by pounding on the front door. When she looked outside she saw two males and heard them talking about whether anyone was home. One male, later identified as Ricky Staten, went to the rear of the home, onto the patio and was attempting to defeat the locked door. The second suspect, identified as Edward Branch, remained in the front of the building by the staircase near her neighbor’s apartment. The resident confronted Branch and questioned what they were doing. The suspects then fled on foot on NW 15th Avenue. The resident described the suspects and their actions to police dispatchers. Officers arrived on scene within minutes and quickly located and detained Branch. Staten was found a short time later behind Bed, Bath and Beyond.
The victim identified Branch and Staten as the two suspect where were trying to get into her home. Staten had a backpack with him and when officers searched it, they found screwdrivers, a flashlight and latex gloves. They also found sports trading cards, several cell phones, and numerous pairs of glasses. Officers arrested Branch and Staten and charged them with burglary to a residence, Staten was also charged with possession of burglary tools.
