Couple arrested after stealing purses
Boca Raton, FL – On Monday, July 22, Boca Raton Police officers responded to a shoplifting that occurred at Nordstrom, 5820 West Glades Road, in which a male took five purses and then fled in a white Mercury. Loss prevention officers saw the same suspect, accompanied by a female, earlier in the day at the Nordstrom in Wellington. The female was also seen by loss prevention officers at Nordstrom Rack, 1400 West Glades shortly after the theft of the purses.
On Tuesday, July 23, loss prevention officers at Nordstrom Rack called police when the suspect was seen in the store acting suspiciously. Undercover and Tactical officers responded and observed the male suspect, later identified as Michael Bonilla, walking from the store toward a white Mercury. Officers spoke to Bonilla outside of the Mercury, which was occupied by the female suspect, identified as Laneshia Watson, and her three young children.
Bonilla refused to answer any questions. However, Watson confessed her involvement in the theft at Nordstrom on July 22. She told officers that it was Bonilla’s idea to steal the purses, because they needed rent money. A Nordstrom’s loss prevention officer identified the suspects and the Mercury. Boca Raton officers recovered a purse in the trunk of the Mercury, which was identified as one of the purses stolen the previous day.
Bonilla was arrested and charged with felony retail theft. While engaged with officers at the scene, Watson tried to grab her phone from the officer, slapping her hand. As a result, Watson was charged with battery on an officer and felony retail theft. The children were turned over to the care of the Department of Children and Families.
