Boca Raton Police bust large drug operation & suspected Clandestine Drug Lab
Boca Raton, FL Officers from the Boca Raton Police Services Department arrested two suspects after it was determined they were selling several different drugs from their apartment. The arrests came shortly after 6:00 pm Monday night, when a controlled purchase of narcotics was attempted at 1989 NW 4th Avenue. A fight broke out between the attempted buyer and Cody Bartley.
When officers entered the apartment, they found Cody Bartley on top of the buyer, choking him. Officers found the victim barely conscious. After separating both individuals, officers noticed a large quantity of drugs including marijuana, Ecstacy, Xanax and LSD in plain view. Due to the amount of narcotics, officers obtained a search warrant and then searched the rest of the apartment. It was at that time that equipment and chemicals consistent with a clandestine drug lab were found. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) responded to assist in the investigation and will test the chemicals to determine what drugs were being created.
Bartley was charged with Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a college; FAU. He was also charged with possession of LSD, MDMA and drug paraphernalia. In addition, Bartley was charged with attempted 2nd degree murder for choking the buyer to near unconsciousness. His roommate, Christopher Ryan Helfrich, was also charged with trafficking of MDMA and LSD, possession of Alprazolam and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Three other people were issued notices to appear, they include: Jennifer Sampson of Delray Beach, she was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Dalton Boyd of Delray Beach for possession of marijuana, and Laura Unks of Boca Raton for possession of marijuana
