Tactical Team arrests two burglars
Boca Raton, FL – On Thursday, October 24, at about 10:55 a.m., members of the Boca Raton Police Department’s Tactical Team were patrolling residential neighborhoods along St. Andrews Boulevard, when an officer noticed a grey Mercedes SUV parked in the driveway of a home in the 2800 block of NW 28th Street. The officer, who remembered seeing the vehicle about 20 minutes earlier in an adjacent neighborhood, believed the SUV was a rental, and noticed the windows were tinted.
The officer stopped, ran the tag and confirmed the SUV was a rental and noticed two people in the front seat. The driver of the vehicle backed out of the driveway and the officer followed, but soon lost sight of it as it sped out of the area. The officer returned to the home where the vehicle was parked and checked to see if a crime had been committed. The officer discovered a rear bathroom window had been smashed.
Meanwhile, other officers caught sight of the SUV as it headed south on I-95. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop as it waited at a traffic light on the exit ramp at Sample Road, in Pompano Beach. The driver accelerated away from officers and a short time later, at the intersection of Sample and Dixie Highway, crashed into a pole. The driver, identified as Brandon Hudson, fled to a nearby gas station where he was arrested. The passenger, Shaune Hinds, was still in the vehicle and sustained a broken leg. Both Hinds and Hudson were transported to a nearby hospital for their injuries.
Officers found identification and jewelry inside the SUV. The identification belonged to a resident on NW 28th Avenue whose home had been broken into.
Officers charged Hudson with burglary to a dwelling, grand theft, attempted burglary to a dwelling, fleeing and eluding, and driving with a habitually suspended driver’s license. Officers charged Hinds with two counts of burglary to a dwelling and grand theft.
The investigation is on-going and further charges may be pending.
