Tactical Team arrests four burglars
Boca Raton, FL On Wednesday, May 18 at 5:25 p.m., the Boca Raton Police Services Department's Tactical Team officers were patrolling in various City parks due to recent automobile burglaries that occurred at Meadows Park and Sugar Sand Park. Officers saw a vehicle that was similar in style and color to the suspect vehicle from a burglary that happened shortly after 5:00PM on Wednesday and followed the vehicle to the parking lot of Ocean Rescue Headquarters, 3939 North Ocean Boulevard, where they stopped it after observing a traffic infraction.
The vehicle was occupied by four subjects, including driver, Edward Hughes, and passengers Breon Davis, Taquilla Brown and a female juvenile. As officers spoke with the occupants, they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. Davis admitted to officers they had been smoking marijuana earlier. When officers searched the car, they found a small bag of marijuana in a seat pocket, as well as pieces of broken glass on the floorboards and a window punch instrument.
Officers spoke with Hughes and Davis who gave conflicting accounts of what they were doing. Brown and the juvenile told officers they had all driven through several parks, including Meadows Park and Sugar Sand Park, and through the campus of FAU, looking for cars to break into. They also told officers that Davis actually broke into several cars and discarded a purse and book bag from the burglaries at a local gas station. The purse and book bag were recovered by a Boca Raton Police Crime Scene investigator at the gas station.
Officers located several items in the suspect's car which belonged to several of the burglary victims. Officers arrested all four suspects for the burglary at Meadows Park and charged them with burglary to a conveyance, theft, possession of burglary tools, and possession of marijuana under 20 grams.
