Teenager arrested for assisting in robbery attempt

Boca Raton, FL – On Friday, July 27, at about 11:00 p.m., Boca Raton Police officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery at Sand Pine Park, 300 Newcastle Street.

The victim told officers he was eating at a picnic table in the park before going home when he saw two juveniles on bicycles riding toward him. When the suspects got within about 20 feet of the victim, they got off their bicycles and walked closer. One suspect was wearing a black mask covering his face and head. The victim sensed trouble and stood up to confront them. The suspect wearing the mask walked up to the victim, assumed a fighting stance, and told the victim, “Give me your wallet. If you don’t give it to me, I will take it from you.” The unmasked suspect stood about 15 feet away. The victim took several steps towards his truck, which was parked close by, and pretended to grab something from the truck bed. The suspects got back on their bicycles and fled south through the park.

Responding officers located three juveniles nearby, including Alex Francois, who matched the description of the unmasked suspect. The victim identified Francois as the suspect who acted as lookout during the robbery. Officers arrested Francois and charged him as a principal to robbery.

If anyone has information about this crime or the second suspect, they are asked to call Detective Jeff Clare at (561) 338-1246 or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS.
